16. I am thankful for date nights alone with Nathan, of course. But the one I am talking about here is date nights with my kids! Nathan and I were talking earlier this year about how our kids need one on one time, and we need that time with them also! So we came up with a plan. Once a month there will be a date night. We have it worked out so that the kids will each get 3 date nights a year, and it will be with only 1 parent at a time. Then the next time it comes up as their turn, they will go with the other parent. The kids love this and really look forward to it. Turns out Nathan and I look forward to it just as much, if not more!
So Friday Courtney and I (with her permission Nathan tagged along) got to go see a play. We watched Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Courtney and I both ADORE the movie, Nathan not so much but he needed this credit for a class he is taking (why he was given permission to tag along). The play was amazing. It was done by college students at The U. I was surprised how well they did. I bet there was no more than 15 of them and they put on a show as an entire village. As we walked in there was a very large sign that said "This is a very dark play with adult content and sexual innuendo". Now I disagree with most ratings that are NC17. I don't let my kids watch movies with nudity or drug use, but the swear words and killing are something I believe they can handle. In all honesty they could probably handle the rest too, but I can't fathom it yet so it's where I stand. Now with that said....Courtney has the entire movie of Sweeney Todd memorized. I mean WORD FOR WORD, memorized! So why would I think that sign meant anything worse than what Tim Burton had already shown her? OHHHHHH how wrong I was. There were a few scenes where I wanted to jump on her and cover her eyes! The theater was small and Courtney wanted the front row....she was hoping to see some serious blood. Yep, that is great parenting there (haha) because we let her. Now Courtney could easily pass for 17 so I understood when one of the guys who was glaring at the crowd, started looking more and more at her. She is a pretty girl. But I do have to say at some points I wished we had chosen to take our date night watching "Wreck It Ralph" or bowling or anything but here. Overall we had a great time and she loved it!
I didn't mean to turn my thankful post into my opinion of the play, but it all tied together. I can't wait until my next date night with my kids!

These date nights are brilliant. Love it.
OHHH am I jealous! I seriously wish I could've gone to see the play too but I'll have to live it through your memory of it. And the date nights is a wonderful idea that I plan to use when I have kids.
