Washington DC

For our honeymoon we went to DC. It was AMAZING! If you haven't been, I highly suggest you go! There is no doubt in my mind I will go again. We had such a great time and seen some wonderful things! It easily makes you feel so proud to be an American!
After a crazy week of last minute wedding details and then the actual wedding itself. We finally made it to DC! The 1st night we were so exhausted but we were too excited to sleep ha ha. So we went for a walk. I know how tired we look, but I still love this picture. Right in front of the capitol.
The Washington Monument I didn't realize how far we would walk that night or I probably wouldn't have wanted to go. So I guess I am very glad I didn't know. Everything looks so different at night, almost magical.
WWII Memorial. It was just beautiful!
The White House
The next day we were able to tour the Pentagon. No pictures allowed, but we did get some of the memorial for all that died on 9/11 at the Pentagon. We stood in the rebuilt hall where the plane crashed through. It is very humbling, and I am so glad we were able to stand there and pay our respects.
Each one of these is a seperate monument for each person who died that day. Whether on the plane, or in the building. They are faced a certain direction for where they were and are placed youngest (a 3 yr old little girl) to oldest (a 76 yr old retired Navy).
Arlington National Cemetary
This was probably my favorite place of all. It really gives you a good idea of just how many ppl have sacrificed for our country in one way or another. I would love to get the opportunity to take my children to see this!
The Changing of the Guard. Nathan explained the purpose to me later for everything they did, it is very amazing that they do this every 1/2 hour as respect.
Arlington House
We toured many parts of the Smithsonian. Our favorite was the National History Museum and American History Museum. We did get the chance to also go through and see the original Constitution, Declaration of Independance and Bill of Rights, but again...no pictures.
We are hoping some of the pictures we took will be in the new Night at the Museum movie....that will make us very cool with our kids ha ha
Iwo Jima - The Marine Corps Memorial
This was much larger than I would have imagined. It was so cool to see all of these things that you see in books all the time. You just can't understand the true force behind each one until you see it in person.
Marine Corps Museum
For this one we had to rent a car and drive out to Quantico, but it was very worth it! It was the most interactive of all the museums we seen. They really wanted to try and help you understand just what it would be like to go to war for your country. We spent quite awhile at this particular museum as Nathan had quite a bit of knowledge on the subject.
Playing some of the games they had. I kept killing off my soldiers by making stupid mistakes, and it was not nice when you did. I got yelled at quite a bit.
The Lincoln Memorial
Vietnam Wall
This isn't far from the National mall. We walked almost everywhere we went, or took the metro system. Everything was so green and beautiful. Lots of trees! I couldn't get over all the trees! And it smelled so fresh everywhere we went!
American History Museum
Landon will be so proud of his dad getting his picture taken with a Ninja Turtle! Funny because this area was dedicated to when we were kids.
This ship went to war and sunk. 200 years later it was recovered. We really thought that was something cool to get to see. It was in pretty good condition, considering.
And the Panda at the Smithsonian National Zoo. I didn't post many pictures of the zoo, as we have all seen the animals so many times before. However, this was an animal I had never gotten to see in person before. Very cute!!
Just a random picture---we used the opportunity as best we could and I ended up with so many pictures!
Our last night. We decided to eat at the hotel and relax. Notice the capitol behind my head in the window....what a great view we had! Nathan summed it up best when he told me that night....we couldn't have started our marriage out better!
I STILL don't have any of the wedding photos. I promise, when I get them I will post them. I am very excited to see them also!
