Today Nathan finally had his surgery to help his back. They injected a needle with a laser on the tip of it into his lower back. Then cauterized all the nerve endings that were causing him pain. The pain will intesify by up to double for the next 2 weeks. Then 4-6 weeks of the same pain he has been living with for the last few months. THEN...he should be pain free for a year or so. Where we will repeat this process as necessary? Seems to me they should just give in and do the backsurgery...but I am not a surgeon working for the VA? (or anywhere for that matter)He is in a large amount of pain right now. He can't sit, it hurts....he can't stand, it hurts....he can't lay, it hurts. Well, you get the point. I may be in the kitchen making peanut butter cookies (his FAVORITE!) before the week is through. He can return to work tomorrow, but his doctor STRONGLY suggests he does not. So I am STRONGLY insisting he does not.
I really hope this does the trick. He has been in and out of there so often with a new answer as to what will make him feel better, but no actual solutions. Mostly he has just tried to adjust and lives with the pain.
